    Image Map
    In This Topic

The Image Map tool provides the ability to add a variety of effects, labels, and annotations etc to an image in your project that are then saved independently from the image (in a separate .imk file).

This Image Map can then generate an image that consists of the background image and the markup items applied to it, individual images of the markup items can also be generated at the same time.

As the markup items are saved independently the background image can be changed at any time without losing any markup item positions or settings. This is extremely useful in scenarios where your background image is likely to change frequently whilst maintaining the same markup i.e. screenshots of an application in development.

The background image of an Image Map can be changed clicking on the Properties button on the Markup Ribbon tab.

After changing the background image of an Image Map it will need to be re-built for changes to take effect.

    Fundamentals

    Creating a new Image Map

    1. Select the New Image Map button on the Project ribbon menu.
New Image Maps can also be created via the context menu option on an image in the Project Explorer.
    2. Select the image to create a new Image Map for in the Image Picker dialog.
    3. Select the location to save the new Image Map to in the Save Image Map dialog.
    4. As the Image Map editor is opened for the new Image Map the Properties dialog displays. In this dialog you can change the Output options and markup item defaults.

Generate images for individual markup items

This example uses a Bullet type markup item, however these steps can be applied to all of the markup item types.
    1. Click on the Bullet button on the Markup Ribbon tab.
    2. Click on the Show Properties button , located in just above the Bullet.
    3. Check the Output As Image option.
    4. Click the Build button on the Markup Ribbon tab.

By default the individual markup item images are saved to the directory as the main marked up image. This path can be changed by editing the Output Filename property.
